TEXT: Rom. 10:9-10, 1Jn. 1:9, Mk. 11:23-24, Matt. 10:32-34, Rom. 10:13
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Rom 10:9-10). For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them (Mark 11:23-24).
This is an important topic that has been neglected for some time. Thus, the aim of this book is to bring forth a revival of the spiritual truth that has been neglected for sometime by the church. Confession is a process in which a true believer speaks out the Word of God to change his life, his world, circumstances and so on. Confession is believing and saying what the bible says about any subject, situation or condition. The Greek word for confession is advance to profess something. To profess is to declare, assent or affirm a particular spiritual truth by having it in your heart and speaking it out of your mouth (Rom. 10:10). To profess is to make a claim to be something, to lay claim to a giving quality. When you profess something, you are adhered to a religious thought. You acknowledge and understand something. Christianity is a great profession. The bible talks of christianity as a great profession (Heb. 10:23). The word ‘confession’ is used in the context of saying something out of your mouth. Christ is called the confession of our faith. This means that the lay hold and claim to Christ by saying what Christ says and in this case, what the Word of God says. Islam has taken over the confession of faith and that is why you find them saying the same thing over and over again. In actual fact, those things they are saying are not true but it is prophetic in the sense that when you say something over and over again, it becomes a reality. So, to be a muslim, you must profess certain things and keep professing it daily. We believe that the christians were the people from whom the muslims learnt the practice of profession of faith. Therefore, it is important to understand what confession is.
What confession does? – 2Chron. 36:22, Heb. 3:1, Heb. 4:14, Heb. 10:23
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession (Heb 4:14).
When you confess the Word of God, there are certain things that you don’t see which are happening. This is why you must keep professing your faith without stopping. You must say what the Word of God says over and over again because of the underlining power in profession your faith. When you confess the Word of God, these are the things that it does.
- Confession releases God’s power in His word – Matt. 10:32, Rom. 10:9
Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven (Matt 10:32).
Words are the biggest thing in the universe. Words create wars. Words create peace. Words cause human beings to move, in the same way, it causes demons to move. Your words cause the angels to come to your rescue. By speaking the Word of God, you are releasing an inherent power in the Word of God.
- Confession reactivates confidence – Heb. 3:14, Gal. 5:10
I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be (Gal 5:10).
Nothing gives you more confidence than saying what the Word of God says. By speaking the Word of God, you are building up your confidence not in your birth, your culture, your tradition, your ability or inability, rather you are laying hold of God’s power in His words to cause you to become someone who God wants you to be. Confidence is faith, it is a self assurance and you do it by a process of self profession. By confessing the Word of God, you boost your morale and a conviction in yourself. You build up resoluteness, daring spirit and even arrogance against the devil and failure in your life. When you release faith, what you do is you are able to rely on God’s ability within you. You have self assurance, self sufficiency and you manifest self profession which is essentially what faith in Word of God builds in you. This confession will help and all family members.
- Confession raises your level of persuasion – Rom. 4:21, Rom. 8:38, Prov. 25:15
And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform (Rom 4:21).
One way by which faith works is that anything you want to receive from God, you must be fully persuaded of that thing. Confessing your faith induces this persuasion. It allows you to win over your lack of confidence. As you speak the Word of God, you will see more life and your spirit receives more courage. In actual fact, you become somebody else to something. Confusion dissipates and disappears. For Abraham, you and I to receive something from God, we must get full persuasion. Confessing the Word of God builds your persuasion almost immediately. The more you speak the Word of God, the more confidence and persuasion you have.
- Confession rushes angels to you – Jer. 1:12, Ps. 103:20, Heb. 1:14
Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it (Jer 1:12).
Part of what is so significant about confession of faith is that it causes angels to come to your rescue. Here is the fact. In heaven, angels stand to obey the Word of God. God Himself said He will hasten His word to perform it. May be you don’t know that as soon as you speak the Word of God, angels are hastened to do what He said. God doesn’t know or respond to your cries or your tears, rather He responds to His words through the angels. God’s word is God. When He hears His words, He sends His angels who are ministering spirits to you who has become heirs of salvation (Heb. 1:14). Notice that unbelievers cannot exercise faith in the Word of God. It may at times work for them but that is the exemption rather than the rule. It is for the Word of God and those of you who have become heirs of salvation in Christ. Why are hesitating to speak out the Word of God? This word is life and it is power. It runs. The Word of God moves very fast when it is accompanied by the angels from your mouth’s instruction.
- Confession ransoms you from enemies’ destruction – Prov. 13:8, Hos. 13:14, 1Tim. 2:6
I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes (Hos 13:14).
Confession brings a release, a rescue and a deliverance from negative forces either within you or outside. How did David get rescued from Goliath? Prayer was one and faith was another thing but confession was what actually unlocked the power of God in him. His liberation and yours come from the same principle and source. David had the Word of God and he turned it into an ammunition that he threw seriously at the devil. He rescued himself from Goliath by undertaking and using a spiritual law, that is the law of faith and the releasing of faith in his heart through his mouth. Notice that in his fight against Goliath, David was always making confessions. This is exactly what confession is all about. As you begin to practise this, you will find yourself having the same opportunity to beat the enemy through the words of your mouth.
